Kaleva Church

The church features seventeen narrow concrete U-shapes reaching 35 meters high, with vertical windows extending from floor to ceiling throughout the structure.

Architects Reima and Raili Pietilä won a design competition in 1959, leading to the construction of this modernist church between 1964 and 1966.

The building incorporates Finnish pine wood throughout its interior furnishings, including the altar, pews, chapel, and sacristy spaces.

The church holds 1,120 people and includes sloping floors toward the altar, ensuring clear views from every seat in the main hall.

The structure's exterior walls were constructed using slipform casting technique over twelve continuous days and nights, creating a distinctive concrete pattern.
