Moomintroll

The Moomintroll is a bronze sculpture located in Sorsapuisto Park beside the staircase that leads up to the Tampere Art Museum. The figure captures the character's distinctive childlike features in solid bronze, positioned where it greets both museum visitors and park-goers.

Artist Tuulikki Pietilä created this bronze sculpture in 2004, and it was originally placed at the Metso Library. The statue was later relocated to Sorsapuisto Park, where it now stands beside the art museum.

The statue brings a beloved literary character into the public space of the city, making the Moomin stories part of everyday life for locals and visitors. People naturally touch and photograph the bronze figure, showing how the connection to these tales remains alive in the community.

The sculpture is outdoors and accessible year-round, located between the art museum and Tampere Hall where you can easily find it. Keep in mind that the bronze surface can become slippery when wet, and the reflecting light makes it a better photography spot during clear weather.

The bronze surface changes noticeably with light and weather, appearing different across seasons and throughout the day. This constant shift in appearance means the sculpture looks fresh and new to visitors who return at different times.
