Sorsapuisto, Public park near Tampere House, Finland
Sorsapuisto is a 4-hectare park centered around a pond called Sorsalampi, bordered by streets on all sides. The space features separate play areas for different ages, heated changing facilities, and becomes an ice rink when temperatures drop in winter.
The park was created in the 1930s as part of an employment program around a natural spring. That spring eventually formed the pond that now serves as the park's centerpiece.
Three illuminated sculptures by Viktor Jansson and The Dancing Girl by Väinö Rickhard Rautalin are displayed throughout the grounds. These artworks shape how visitors experience the space and become part of its everyday character.
The park has separate play zones for different age groups with heated changing rooms for visitors. Walks around the pond are easy and accessible from all entry points throughout the day.
Water birds have made the park their home since 1939, visible in cages on the pond's west side from May through early autumn. These birds have become a distinctive feature that draws visitors back year after year.
