Tiilikkajärvi National Park, National park in Rautavaara and Sotkamo, Finland
Tiilikkajärvi is a national park in the Rautavaara and Sotkamo areas covering roughly 34 square kilometers. It consists of dense forests, wetlands, and a central lake with sandy shores, framed by ridge formations and smaller bodies of water.
The park was established in 1982 to protect the forest and wetland landscapes of the region. Within its boundaries stands a historic stone marking an old peace agreement, carved with ancient engravings.
The park displays a mix of forest and wetland habitats that represent the character of central Finland. Visitors walking through it can see how these different natural zones blend together across the terrain.
The park has roughly 20 kilometers of marked trails, including a 7-kilometer loop around two smaller lakes. Routes are open for all visitors and offer different hiking options depending on how much time you have.
The park is home to northern bird species like the Siberian jay, brambling, and rustic bunting that you might spot during walks. Beavers inhabit the surrounding rivers and shape the ecosystem through their dam-building activities.
