Rikalan linna, Iron Age hillfort in Salo, Finland
Rikalan linna is an archaeological site featuring stone fortifications built on the Linnamäki hillside in Salo. The walls stretch approximately 160 meters along the southwestern and southeastern slopes at an elevation of around 59 meters.
The fortification was built between 1000 and 1200 CE when the region functioned as a trading center. This defensive structure on the hilltop served the economic and protective needs of the area during that period.
Archaeological excavations in 2001-2002 by the University of Turku revealed cultural layers and increased phosphorus values indicating human activities.
A marked path guides visitors up the eastern slope to reach the summit, with an information board explaining the site's background. The route is accessible on foot and offers good views of the fortifications and surrounding landscape.
