Kannonkoski Church, Lutheran church in Kannonkoski parish village, Finland.
Kannonkoski Church is a white functionalist building standing at approximately 142 meters elevation and accommodating about 350 people in its interior. The structure features clean lines and geometric forms that define the functionalist approach to design and space.
The building was originally designed by Pauli E. Blomstedt, but his death in 1935 interrupted the initial plans. Märta Blomstedt and Matti Lampén took over the project and completed it in 1938.
The church serves as a gathering place for the local community, hosting religious services and social events throughout the year. Its clean geometric form reflects the early 20th-century modern thinking that shaped Finnish architecture at the time.
The church is centrally located in the village of Kannonkoski and easily accessible on foot, with the elevated location providing good views of the surroundings. Visitors should check in advance when services are held, as opening times can vary.
During the Winter War of 1939-1940, 117 monks from Valamo Monastery found shelter in and around Kannonkoski. Several are buried in the church cemetery, a quiet reminder of that turbulent period.
