Korouoma

The Korouoma canyon stretches for 30 kilometers with steep walls rising up to 130 meters above the meandering Korojoki River at its base.

The river valley served as a timber transportation route during the logging period, with remains of old shelters still visible along the Kurttajoki River.

Traditional farming practices included bringing cattle and sheep to graze in the natural meadows at the bottom of the valley, leaving traces of old barns.

Two marked circular hiking trails of 5 kilometers each start from the Saukkovaara parking area, with facilities including wilderness huts and campfire sites.

During winter, multiple waterfalls freeze into massive ice formations, creating Finland's premier destination for ice climbing with routes graded from WI3 to WI6.
