Tähtiniemi Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Heinola, Finland
Tähtiniemi Bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning Lake Ruotsalainen with two tall towers supporting the roadway. The bridge carries traffic along the E75 route while maintaining adequate clearance for boat passage beneath.
The bridge was completed in 1993 and created a new transportation connection across the lake for Finnish national road 4. It became important for improving road access between different areas of the region.
The bridge design by engineer Pekka Pulkkinen from WSP Finland demonstrates the Finnish commitment to merging infrastructure with natural landscapes.
The bridge forms part of the E75 route used by cars and trucks, so expect regular traffic crossing it. Walking or cycling across is possible, though weather conditions can make it less comfortable during rainy or windy periods.
With its 165-meter main span and total length of 924 meters, Tähtiniemi Bridge stands as the second longest bridge structure in Finland.
