Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Rauma, Finland.
Kylmäpihlaja is a 32-meter coastal tower in Rauma marked in white and red to guide ships through these waters. The complex includes hotel rooms, a restaurant, conference facilities, and a marina for visiting boats.
Built in 1953, this was Finland's last inhabited lighthouse to be constructed. It took the place of a previous lightvessel that was then relocated to serve the port of Kemi.
This complex brings together navigation functions and guest spaces, showing how maritime life remains woven into daily routines here. Visitors can see where lighthouse keepers and travelers share the same building and waterfront.
The site is easily reached from Rauma and offers direct waterfront access for exploration. Keep in mind this is an active navigation facility, so some areas may have limited public access.
The tower houses specialized equipment including a fog horn, radar, and radio beacon operating around the clock for maritime safety. These systems work constantly in the background, often unnoticed by visitors but essential to the station's role.
