Korppoon säätutka, Weather radar station in Korpo, Finland
Korppoon säätutka is a weather radar station located on Korpo island that continuously monitors atmospheric conditions across a wide region. The facility generates fresh weather images at regular intervals to support forecasting for maritime areas and coastal communities.
The station began operating in 1997 and replaced an older radar system from a previous location. Since then it has continuously served weather monitoring needs for the Finnish coastal region.
The station contributes to the maritime traditions of the region by providing weather data essential for fishing, shipping, and local navigation activities.
The station sits on a hilltop and remains visible across the island landscape. You can view the facility from nearby public pathways that provide access to different parts of the island.
During winter, the radar can detect snowfall up to 150 kilometers away, monitoring weather patterns across the Archipelago Sea and reaching as far as Stockholm.
