Archipelago National Park, Maritime national park in Southwestern Finland.

Archipelago National Park is a marine protected area in Southwestern Finland spread across tens of thousands of islands, rocky outcrops, and bays throughout the Archipelago Sea. The area combines open water, coastal forests, historic meadows, and both inhabited and abandoned settlements scattered on different islands.

The area became a protected park in 1983 to safeguard the distinctive marine landscape and the tradition-rich island communities of Finland. This decision recognized the ecological and cultural importance of the region for future generations.

The islands reveal how people have lived from the sea through small fishing settlements, lighthouses, and stone structures that remain inhabited and in use. Visitors can explore these places and see how maritime traditions continue in daily life across the scattered communities.

Most islands are accessible only by scheduled ferry or private boat, so visitors should plan routes in advance. The best time to visit is between May and September when weather is stable and ferry services run regularly.

The park includes underwater paths where visitors with proper gear can explore submerged cultural remains and marine habitats in ways few other places offer. These routes connect history and nature in an unconventional way that reveals the life below the surface.
