Đakovo

The town of Đakovo extends across fertile plains at 111 meters elevation, featuring traditional architecture and agricultural landscapes in eastern Croatia.

The settlement, first documented in 1239, developed from a Roman settlement named Certissia and became a significant religious center under the Diocese of Bosnia.

St. Peter's Cathedral, constructed between 1866 and 1882, displays neo-Romanesque architecture with two 84-meter towers and detailed frescoes inside.

Travelers reach Đakovo through regular bus connections from Osijek, located 37 kilometers northeast, with accommodations available in local hotels and guesthouses.

The State Stud Farm maintains a centuries-old tradition of breeding Lipizzan horses, which arrived during the 1805 Napoleonic Wars evacuation.
