Ban Jelačić Square, Central square in Zagreb, Croatia.
The rectangular plaza features a prominent equestrian statue of Ban Josip Jelačić surrounded by numerous buildings from different architectural periods.
Originally established as Harmica marketplace in 1641, the square was renamed in 1848 to honor Croatian military leader Ban Josip Jelačić.
The square functions as Zagreb's primary gathering space for public celebrations, festivals, concerts, and seasonal markets throughout the year.
Multiple tram lines intersect at the square, connecting it with other parts of Zagreb while numerous cafes and shops line its perimeter.
The Manduševac Fountain marks the location of a medieval well that, according to local tales, gave Zagreb its name.
