Avenida Andrássy, UNESCO World Heritage boulevard in District VI, Hungary

The 2.32-kilometer Andrássy Avenue connects the city center to City Park through three sections of different widths and architectural styles.

Construction of the boulevard began in 1872 and was completed in 1896, coinciding with the millennial celebration of the Hungarian conquest.

The Hungarian State Opera House and numerous Neo-renaissance mansions demonstrate the architectural excellence that lines both sides of the avenue.

The continental Europe's first underground railway system, built in 1896, runs beneath the avenue and serves multiple stations along its route.

The avenue's design intentionally excluded churches to facilitate aristocrats' horse-drawn carriages, while artists received discounted land plots during construction.
