Mindszent Church

Mindszent Church is a Baroque parish church in a district of Miskolc featuring two tall towers completed in 1864. A triangular plaza spreads before its main entrance on Mindszent Square, creating an open space in front of the building.

Construction began in 1724 on the site of an earlier chapel from 1507, representing a major expansion for the district. Final completion in 1880 established it as a landmark of its era.

The church is dedicated to Saint Stephen and holds artistic works that draw both worshippers and visitors into its space. The interior reflects the devotion that has been lived out in this place across generations.

The building is easily reached from the square and the interior is open to visitors during certain times. It is helpful to be respectful and to expect that religious services take place regularly throughout the day.

In front of the church stands a statue of Mary holding a jar from 1739, which together with a Calvary shrine beside it forms a rare testimony to local devotion. This pairing shows how worshippers shaped the outdoor space as part of their spiritual life.
