Jameson, Whisky distillery in Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland
Jameson is a whiskey distillery located in the Smithfield neighborhood of Dublin, Ireland. The facility blends grain whiskey with single pot still whiskey made from Irish barley grown within fifty miles (80 km) of its Midleton production site.
The distillery opened in 1780 when John Jameson founded the operation and expanded it over the following decades. By the late 1800s, the site produced more than one million gallons yearly and employed several hundred workers.
The name honors John Romeson, a Scottish distiller whose family ran the operation for generations. Visitors today walk past copper stills and wooden barrels that once defined daily work inside these walls.
Visitors can join guided tours, tasting sessions, and cocktail workshops at the renovated site in central Dublin. The tours explain the steps of whiskey production and offer insights into barrel storage and aging processes.
A pub called The Local in Minneapolis sells more bottles of this brand than any other venue worldwide, averaging over twenty daily. This volume surpasses many outlets in Ireland itself and shows how far the brand has traveled.
