Naas, County town in Kildare North, Ireland.
Naas is a county town in Kildare, positioned about 30 kilometers southwest of Dublin across gently rolling terrain. Saint David's Castle has dominated the center of the townscape since 1210, serving as its most recognizable landmark.
The settlement originated as Nás na Ríogh, an ancient gathering place for Irish kings, before becoming a fortified market town under Norman influence. This transformation established it as the administrative center it remains today.
The town remains deeply rooted in horse racing culture, with Naas Racecourse and Punchestown Festival serving as focal points for local gatherings and celebrations. These events shape how residents spend their leisure time and define much of the community's character.
The town connects to Dublin via the N7 road and has access to train services from nearby Sallins station. The center is compact and walkable, with most shops and facilities clustered around the main street area.
Kerry Group established their Global Technology and Innovation Centre here, transforming the town into a hub for food research and development. This facility brings contemporary industry into a place with deep historical roots.
