Buncrana

Buncrana is a coastal settlement on the Inishowen peninsula that stretches along the shores of Lough Swilly. The town sits on a bay with sandy beaches and benefits from a natural harbor formed by the surrounding landscape.

Modern development began in 1718 when George Vaughan built the main street south of the River Crana. This construction marked the transformation from a small settlement into an established town.

The annual Buncrana Music & Arts Festival presents numerous performers at venues throughout the town, bringing together local and visiting musicians.

The town provides access to beaches and water activities for visitors interested in coastal exploration. The facilities are reached via well-maintained local roads and pathways.

Buncrana was the first town in the county to receive electric power in 1905, generated at a local mill facility. This early electrification made it a pioneer in regional infrastructure development.
