Bocan stone circle, Bronze Age stone circle in Inishowen, Ireland.
Bocan stone circle is a Bronze Age monument in County Donegal consisting of seven stones arranged in an oval pattern. The arrangement spans about 18 meters across, with two taller stones positioned toward the east.
Written records first documented this site in 1816 when archaeologists uncovered earthen urns buried within the circle. The discovery revealed that ancient people used the location for burials during prehistoric times.
The circle alignment creates a direct east-west axis between Slieve Snaght mountain and the Scottish island of Jura, suggesting astronomical significance.
The stone circle is accessible via a short walk from Bocan Church through open farmland with good visibility. The site sits on level ground and is easy to navigate regardless of weather conditions.
The stones sit at roughly 62 meters elevation, giving visitors expansive views across three directions of the surrounding landscape. On clear days you can see across Trawbrega Bay toward Scottish islands.
