Cahir Priory

The remnants of the priory stand along the western bank of River Suir, 600 meters north of Cahir Castle with visible limestone carvings and window structures.

The priory began operations in the early 1300s as a residence for Augustinian canons until its dissolution in 1540 when Abbot Edmund Lonergan surrendered the property.

The religious complex features architectural elements from various periods, including 13th-century buildings and modifications from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.

Visitors can examine the preserved choir section of the church, which contains a series of windows in the north wall along with corbels made from limestone.

The site includes a castle built after the monastery's dissolution, positioned at the southeastern corner of the cloister, marking the transition of power structures.
