Cloghanmore Tomb

Cloghanmore is a megalithic chamber tomb extending about 46 meters in length with two parallel galleries positioned beside each other facing east. The western end holds the main burial chambers while secondary spaces occupy positions next to the entrance.

This tomb was built in prehistoric times as part of an ancient tradition of megalithic construction across the region. In the 1880s restoration work exposed the structure's outline and rebuilt sections of the collapsed walls.

Local stories tell of treasure hunters who came to dig around the stones hoping to find hidden riches. These tales show how the tomb remains part of the community's memory and folklore.

The site sits on level ground near the coast and is accessible on foot though paths cross damp and uneven grassland. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring weather-resistant clothing as the area experiences frequent wind and rain.

The structure displays design elements typically found in passage tombs despite being classified as a court tomb. This unusual blend of architectural styles makes it puzzling to those who study ancient building traditions.
