Clonony, Tudor tower house in County Offaly, Ireland.

The limestone tower house rises fifty feet high near the Shannon River, featuring defensive walls, a moat, and extensive gardens around its perimeter.

Built by the MacCoughlan clan in 1519, the castle transferred to King Henry VIII who granted it to Thomas Boleyn during the Tudor period.

The castle grounds contain the burial site of Mary and Elizabeth Boleyn, cousins of Queen Elizabeth I, marked by a limestone flag near a hawthorn tree.

Visitors can access the first and second floors through a restored spiral staircase, with the second floor displaying an original barrel-vaulted ceiling.

The castle operates without electricity, requiring guests to navigate its restored chambers and banquet hall by candlelight during evening hours.
