The Spirit of Butts Farm

The Spirit of Butts Farm is a radio-controlled model aircraft with a wingspan of 72 inches (183 cm) and a weight of approximately 5 kilograms. The plane carried an autopilot system that allowed it to fly autonomously over long distances without constant human control.

The model aircraft launched from Cape Spear in Newfoundland on August 9, 2003, on an ambitious transatlantic journey. After 38 hours in the air, it landed near Clifden in Ireland, achieving a remarkable feat for such a small aircraft.

The aircraft's name combines Charles Lindbergh's historic transatlantic journey with R. Beecher Butts, whose farm served as a testing ground for this bold project. This connection between a famous aviator and a local supporter shows how a small initiative can reflect global ambitions.
