Cork Airport, International airport in Ballyphehane, Ireland.
Cork Airport is an international commercial aerodrome in Ballyphehane that handles domestic and overseas flights through a single terminal building with multiple levels. The facility features separate zones for departures on the upper floor and arrivals on the ground level, while baggage reclaim and car rental desks are arranged at ground level.
The aerodrome opened for flights in January 1961 and received an official ceremony in October that same year. Over the following decades, the facility expanded its capacity several times and developed into the main air transport hub in southern Ireland.
The facility carries the name of Cork city and displays bilingual signage in English and Irish Gaelic throughout the building. Local shops in the terminal sell products from the Munster region and offer travelers a taste of the county's culinary traditions.
Regular bus connections run from the terminal to central Cork and take around half an hour for the journey. Taxis wait directly outside the exit, while several car hire companies operate their desks in the arrivals hall.
In 2023, the facility became the first transport center in Ireland to install reverse vending machines for bottles and cans. These machines allow travelers to return empty containers and receive a small refund before boarding their flight.
