Tramore Valley Park, Public park in Cork, Ireland
This 70-hectare park contains walking trails, sports facilities, an outdoor gym, and wetlands, offering multiple activity options for visitors throughout the year.
The land transformed from Kinsale Road landfill, which operated between 1963 and 2009, processing 2.78 million tonnes of municipal and industrial waste.
The 2.5-kilometer looped walkway bears the name of Rob Heffernan, celebrating the accomplishments of this Cork-born Olympic medal-winning walker.
The park opens daily from 8:30 AM and provides 400 parking spaces, with additional access points for pedestrians and cyclists from South Douglas Road.
A methane-fired plant within the park generates electricity from the former landfill gas, supplying power to approximately 500 local houses.
