Kilcash Castle, Medieval castle in County Tipperary, Ireland
Kilcash Castle is a medieval tower house from the 1500s in County Tipperary, with the remains of an attached hall and a cemetery on the grounds. The structure stands on a slightly raised plot and can be seen clearly from the nearby road.
The Butler family took control of the castle after the Irish Confederate Wars and kept it for several centuries. In 1997 they sold it to the Irish State, which has since managed the site.
The medieval cemetery beside the castle holds a Butler family mausoleum and numerous gravestones carved with detailed patterns from the 1700s.
The site is currently being restored, so access inside the grounds may be limited. The tower can still be seen from the road west of Ballydine without entering the property.
A traditional Irish song mourns the ruin of this place and honors Margaret Magennis, Viscountess Iveagh, who had strong ties to the castle. The song is still sung today and keeps her memory alive in Irish folk tradition.
