Togher Castle, Stone tower house in County Cork, Ireland

The rectangular tower house stands 18 meters tall with exterior walls covered in smooth mortar and windows decorated with Cork limestone details.

Built in 1590 by Tadhg an Fhorsa of the MacCarthys after receiving land grants from Queen Elizabeth I of England.

The MacCarthy family constructed this residence to establish their authority in the region, featuring their coat of arms near the entrance hall.

Access to the castle requires permission from the landowner as it stands on private farmland in the valley of the River Bandon.

The structure contains two projecting machicolations at opposite corners and includes a small windowless dungeon called the tyrant's little chamber.
