Tel Be'er Sheva, Archaeological site and national park in eastern Beersheba, Israel

Tel Be'er Sheva is an excavated ancient settlement east of Beersheba with fortification walls, residential buildings, and storage structures from different historical periods. The site reveals the layout of a small city with structures that were used and modified over more than one thousand years.

The settlement was founded in the early Iron Age and was later inhabited by various cultures, including the Nabataeans and Romans. It played a role in trade networks connecting the Near East until it was eventually abandoned.

This location served as a hub where people from different regions met to trade and conduct business across many centuries. The ruins reveal how residents adapted to harsh conditions and built a functioning community in the southern desert.

The national park has marked paths and informative signs in multiple languages to help you navigate the ruins. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as the site sits in open desert terrain with little shade available.

The site contains one of the region's oldest well systems, with deep shafts and underground chambers carved directly into limestone bedrock. This water system allowed people to survive and conduct trade in this arid region.
