Haifa International Airport, airport in Israel
Haifa International Airport is a commercial airport in the northern city of Haifa that connects passengers between Israel and other countries. The modern terminal features large windows, check-in counters, waiting areas, and luggage facilities for both domestic and international flights, with a main runway just over 1,000 meters long.
The airport was founded in 1934 during British control and initially served as a military base called RAF Haifa. After World War II, it reopened in 1948 for civilian use and has been managed by the Israel Airports Authority since the late 1970s.
The airport bears the name of Uri Michaeli, a pioneer in civil aviation who helped establish flying for the Jewish community in Israel. Its simple and accessible design reflects how travel serves as a practical gateway for local residents and visitors connecting with the world beyond.
Arrive about one hour before domestic flights and one and a half hours for international flights to allow time for check-in and security. The airport is easily accessible by car via Highway 22 with free parking in front of the terminal, or by bus and taxi from downtown.
The terminal was built in the late 1990s with modern design, while the site itself has a long military history as RAF Haifa. Visitors often see ships and factories when walking around, as the airport sits near the major port and shipbuilding yards.
