Beit Amir, Residential house in Jerusalem, Israel
Beit Amir is a residential house in Jerusalem with seven floors that thoughtfully combines living spaces with shared community areas. The building was designed to support various types of gatherings and daily activities across its levels.
The building was completed in 1961 by architect David Resnick, who had recently immigrated from Brazil to Israel. Resnick brought his experience with Brazilian modernism and his earlier work with Oscar Niemeyer into this project.
The building blends international modernist principles with local Jerusalem architectural traditions. This combination reflects how the city explored new ways of living together during the mid-20th century.
The building is located in a residential neighborhood of Jerusalem and continues to function as a housing complex. Visitors should remember this is a private residence that can only be viewed from outside.
Resnick integrated ideas from his time at Kibbutz Ein Hashofet into the design, creating an unusual blend of urban living with communal ideals. This fusion of kibbutz principles in a modern apartment building is uncommon and makes the house distinctive.
