Israel aquarium, Public aquarium in Jerusalem, Israel.
The Israel Aquarium is a marine museum in Jerusalem with four sections displaying around 200 animal species, including rays, clownfish, groupers, seahorses, and sharks. The animals are spread across 13 connected spaces that you walk through in a loop.
The aquarium opened in June 2017 next to the Biblical Zoo and was the first major public aquarium in Jerusalem. It was funded and supported by the Gottesman family.
The galleries display marine life from four Israeli waters: the Mediterranean, Red Sea, Sea of Galilee, and Dead Sea. Each section reflects the special conditions and inhabitants found in these different bodies of water.
Allow about two hours for the complete loop walk and arrive early as the museum gets busy at certain times. The paths are well-marked and simple to follow, so you can navigate easily on your own.
The Mediterranean section has underwater viewing windows where you can watch marine life up close. The museum also teaches visitors about a fascinating natural process: how sea creatures migrate through the Suez Canal and change Mediterranean ecosystems.
