Mahabodhi Temple, Buddhist temple in India
The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ancient Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya, marking the location where the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment.
Built in the 5th–6th century AD, the temple underwent several restorations and renovations over centuries.
It's a major pilgrimage destination for Buddhists from around the world, especially on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the day of Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death.
The temple complex is open daily from 5 am to 9 pm, with free entry.
The temple houses a large and revered Bodhi Tree, under which Buddha is believed to have achieved enlightenment.
