Jharsuguda Airport, Commercial aerodrome in Jharsuguda, India.
Veer Surendra Sai Airport is an operational airport serving Jharsuguda and carries passengers to cities across India. The terminal has a modern waiting area with space for several hundred travelers at the same time.
The airfield was originally a military base for Allied forces during World War II but was later abandoned and unused for decades. A comprehensive modernization through government investment began in the early 2010s to bring it back into operation.
The terminal displays works by local artisans featuring traditional Sambalpuri textile patterns and representations of regional dance forms from Odisha. Visitors can see these expressions of local culture directly when entering the building.
The airport lies about 5 kilometers south of the city and is easily reached by car or taxi. Flights connect Jharsuguda with several major cities, with arrival and departure times varying by operator.
The airfield spans about 1,000 acres of land with a long runway designed to accommodate larger aircraft types. This size was needed to enable modern air traffic with Airbus planes.
