Ushakothi

Ushakothi is a wildlife refuge in Sambalpur district that protects dry deciduous forests with sal trees, sandalwood groves, and bamboo thickets. The sanctuary is home to tigers, elephants, deer, and many bird species living in their natural habitats.

The sanctuary was established in 1962 to protect tiger and elephant habitats and other wildlife across this region of Odisha. Its creation reflected India's early commitment to conservation efforts during the mid-20th century.

The sanctuary serves as a vital conservation center where forest officials work with Indian wildlife activists to maintain ecological balance and protect native species.
