Sanaghagara Waterfall

Sanaghagara Waterfall descends in two distinct stages over rocky formations, creating white water patterns as it flows. The San Machakandana River feeds this cascade through natural stone layers shaped by the flowing water over time.

A local development committee was established in the 1990s to manage and preserve the waterfall site. This marked the beginning of organized maintenance efforts to protect the natural formation for future visitors.

The name comes from local language traditions, where "Sana" means small and "ghagara" refers to falling water. This naming reflects how the community has understood and described the waterfall in everyday speech.

The waterfall sits at a manageable distance from the district town along a main road, making it fairly easy to reach. The site stays open throughout the year, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace without seasonal constraints.

This waterfall sits downstream from a larger counterpart in the same river system, making it part of a cascading network of water formations. Visitors often miss that they can explore both falls on the same outing to see how the water's power differs between them.
