Patali Srikhetra, Hindu temple at Trikut Hill in Kotsamalai, India
Patali Srikhetra is a Hindu temple situated at the base of Trikut Hill, displaying traditional Odishan architectural features with sacred deities housed in its inner sanctuary. The complex consists of multiple religious structures integrated into the hillside landscape.
In the 4th century AD, sacred deities from the Jagannath temple were hidden in caves of Trikut Hill during a military invasion. This sanctuary later emerged as a place where multiple religious traditions converged over the centuries.
The temple brings together elements from Shaktism, Buddhism, and Vaishnavism, showing the religious diversity of Odisha. Visitors can observe how these different traditions coexist in the way the space is arranged and used for worship.
The temple is difficult to reach, with unmarked paths and limited visitor facilities on the hillside. It is best visited during drier months when the terrain is more passable.
Archaeological findings suggest the temple site had prehistoric connections to other sacred locations in the region. These discoveries indicate the place held significance in local belief patterns long before its current religious use.
