Indian Military Academy, Military academy in Dehradun, India.
The Indian Military Academy occupies a large area in the Himalayan foothills, with training grounds, classrooms, sports facilities, and residential quarters for cadets. The campus sits in a hilly landscape with views toward the northern mountain ranges.
Field Marshal Philip Chetwode established the academy in 1932 to train Indian officers for military leadership. The first class began with 40 cadets and laid the foundation for the country's officer training program.
The institution follows the motto 'Valour and Wisdom', which shapes daily cadet life and training routines. An honor code binds all members to absolute truthfulness and personal accountability in service.
Training lasts one year and includes physical conditioning, weapons instruction, leadership development, and academic coursework. Each training cycle takes in over 400 cadets who progress through the program together.
More than 61,000 officers have graduated from this institution since its founding. Among them are six recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration for valor in the face of the enemy.
