Meenmutty Falls

Meenmutty Falls is a waterfall in Wayanad where water descends over three rocky tiers from a height of about 300 meters, forming the largest waterfall system in the region. The water separates into multiple cascades before joining together in a natural pool at the base.

The name comes from ancient fishing practices where the surrounding pools served as natural traps for fish in the Western Ghats. These waters have been important to local communities for many generations and shaped how they lived.

Local tribes maintain traditional fishing methods in the pools beneath the falls, using handwoven nets and sustainable catching techniques passed through generations.

You reach the falls by walking about two kilometers through the forest from Meppadi village, and sturdy shoes are necessary for the trek. Bring plenty of water and allow time to move carefully, as parts of the path can be steep and slippery.

During monsoon season, the water flow creates three distinct falls that remain separated until reaching the natural pool at the bottom.
