The Doon School, Boarding school in Dehradun, India.
The Doon School is a boarding institution for boys aged 12 to 18 in the city of Dehradun in Uttarakhand state. The grounds spread across roughly 29 hectares and contain classroom buildings made of brick and stone, residential halls with multiple floors, playing fields, and wooded areas at the edge of the campus.
The lawyer Satish Ranjan Das founded the institution in 1935 with support from British educators. Arthur E. Foot took on leadership as the first headmaster and brought experience from Eton College with him.
The school carries its five house names as a reminder of Indian princely states and industrial founders. Each house functions as a smaller community within the entire institution and shapes daily life for students through its own traditions and competitions.
Admission follows a selection process with examinations and interviews several months before the start of the school year. Visitors can enter the campus during certain events but should inquire in advance.
The school operates its own observatory on the grounds where students carry out astronomical observations. This facility is among the few of its kind at Indian schools.
