Ajwa, Water reservoir in Vadodara, India

The Ajwa reservoir spans 5 kilometers in length with 62 gates and maintains water at a height of 211 feet above sea level.

Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III commissioned the reservoir in 1885 to provide clean drinking water for the residents of Vadodara, addressing cholera outbreaks.

The adjacent Ajwa gardens feature musical fountains and recreational spaces, transforming into the ATAPI Resort in 2019 for community gatherings.

The reservoir fulfills 30 percent of Vadodara's water requirements and connects to the Vishwamitri river for managing excess water during floods.

The reservoir houses a population of 340 crocodiles and employs a water-filled drum system for operating its gates.
