Perambur

Perambur is a suburb in North Chennai built around major railway facilities and residential neighborhoods. The Integral Coach Factory manufactures trains including the Vande Bharat Express and remains the area's largest employer.

The name comes from Tamil words 'pirambu' meaning bamboo and 'oor' meaning place, referring to bamboo groves that once covered the area. The railway later transformed it into a major transportation hub and manufacturing center.

The neighborhood is home to religious sites like Venkatesa Perumal Temple and Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine that serve different faiths. These places shape the spiritual life of residents and reflect the area's diverse communities.

The area is easily accessible by public transport with several railway stations connecting commuters across the city. Visitors should go early in the morning to see factory activity and avoid crowds.

The Murasoli Maran Flyover, completed in 2010, directly links North Chennai to other parts of the city and stands as an important engineering feat. Few visitors realize the bridge is named after a prominent political activist.
