Barrackpore Government High School
Barrackpore Government High School, Colonial-era heritage boys' school in Barrackpore, India
The school building features Collegiate Neo-Gothic architecture with prominent educational facilities spread across multiple structures on Barrackpore Trunk Road near Talpukur.
George Eden, First Earl of Auckland and Governor-General of India, established this educational institution in 1837 to provide English education to local Bengali children.
The institution introduced a progressive educational approach by welcoming students from all social backgrounds, eliminating caste barriers in nineteenth-century colonial India.
Students prepare for Madhyamik examination under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and Higher Secondary Examination under West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
The school received direct patronage from British governors, with Lord Canning contributing funds for expansion after the death of Countess Charlotte Canning.
