Mahisagar district

Mahisagar is an administrative district in Gujarat that encompasses several towns including Lunavada, Khanpur, Balasinor, Santrampur, Kadana, and Virpur. The administrative center is located in Lunavada, which serves as the main hub for the region.

The district was created through administrative reorganization in 2013, when sections of the Kheda and Panchmahal districts were combined into a single region. This restructuring brought together previously separate communities under one administrative authority.

The communities here celebrate local festivals throughout the year that reflect regional traditions and customs specific to each area. These celebrations show how diverse the cultural practices remain across different parts of the district.

The district is connected to major Gujarat cities through an extensive network of regional roads and local highways. Travel between the various towns scattered across the region requires patience, as distances between settlements can be considerable.

The name comes from the Mahi Sagar River, which flows through the region and plays a key role in irrigation and agriculture across multiple settlements. This river has long shaped farming practices and water management throughout the area.
