Greenfield International Stadium, Cricket field in Thiruvananthapuram, India
Greenfield International Stadium is a cricket ground in Thiruvananthapuram, India, with seating for 50,000 spectators, located near the Kerala University Campus at Karyavattom. The facility spans 15 hectares and features floodlight towers, separate areas for players and media, and spectator stands on both long sides of the playing field.
Construction began in 2012, and the facility opened in November 2015 with a home match for the cricket team from Kerala. Three years later, the venue held its first international one-day match between India and the West Indies.
The cricket ground takes its name from a meadow that once covered the site before construction began. During matches featuring the local team, spectators in the stands wear team scarves and clap in rhythm with the action on the field.
Multiple entrances lead to the spectator stands, with each gate assigned to a different seating category. First-time visitors should arrive early to become familiar with the internal pathways and avoid crowding before the match begins.
Rainwater collection systems beneath the stands harvest monsoon downpours to supply irrigation for the playing surface. Solar panels on the roofs of the side stands generate electricity for floodlights and scoreboards during evening matches.
