Kadampuzha Devi Temple, Hindu temple in Malappuram district, India
Kadampuzha Devi Temple is a Hindu temple in Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. Inside, a mirror sits above a pit, while the building has no traditional roof, allowing sunlight and rain to enter the sacred space directly.
The origin of the temple goes back several centuries, when this site may have been linked to Buddhist or Jain communities. Over time the place evolved into a Hindu sanctuary and continues to draw believers from the region.
The name Kadampuzha means acacia forest, pointing to the vegetation that once defined this area. Today people come here to view the mirror above the pit, believing that their own reflection represents the goddess.
The sanctuary opens for three sessions of worship each day: in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. Visitors can watch as flowers are laid out before the noon prayer as a sign of devotion.
During the Malayalam month of Dhanu, roughly from mid-December to mid-January, recitations from the Rigveda take place. At the same time Kathakali performances are held, drawing hundreds of spectators to the temple grounds with their colorful masks and expressive dance sequences.
