Ragigudda Sri Prasannaswamy Anjaneya Temple, Hindu temple in Jayanagar, India
Ragigudda Sri Prasannaswamy Anjaneya Temple occupies a five-acre hillock in Jayanagar 9th Block, with the main Hanuman shrine on the rock and a smaller Ganesha, Navagraha and Rajarajeshwari temple at its base. Steps and an electric lift lead up the hill. Two white tiered towers with rounded, finial-topped domes stand among trees, and a Trimurti Sannidhi of engraved rocks honours Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
The temple was founded in 1969 and officially registered in 1972 after young community members initiated the project to establish a place of worship. It grew from a desire to create a spiritual center that would serve the local area.
The name Ragigudda comes from ragi, finger millet in Kannada, and gudda, hillock: a local tale says a pious woman named Sudharma gave a basket of ragi to three visitors, and the grain turned to stone. Every December the temple holds a 12-day Hanuman Jayanthi with over 35,000 pilgrims, yagyas, abhisheka and Mahaprasada, and a fair that supports hundreds of families in South Bengaluru.
The temple operates at different hours on weekdays compared to weekends, adjusting to prayer times. It helps to check opening hours in advance, especially if you plan to visit during festivals or busy periods.
The three engraved stones of the Trimurti Sannidhi stand beside the temple, not on the hilltop. Local lore says the trinity turned themselves into these rocks after granting darshan to Sudharma, the chieftain's wife who gave them ragi.
