The Sanket Trust received a land plot in 1994 and construction began, finishing in 2001. The theatre opened in October 2004 and has since become an important venue in the local performing arts scene.
The theatre is named after a celebrated late artist and run by a cultural trust dedicated to supporting the local performance community. Daily shows except Mondays present works in multiple languages, creating a gathering place where different artistic traditions meet.
The venue is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with all facilities close together for convenient access. Visitors can comfortably spend time browsing the bookshop or relaxing at the café before or after a performance.
Each year during the theatre festival, the Shankar Nag Award ceremony celebrates outstanding artistic work in the local performance scene. This event marks the festival's closing and honours notable talent in theatre.
