Bengaluru Fort

Bengaluru Fort is a fortification featuring substantial stone walls and defensive bastions constructed and modified across several centuries. The structure displays a blend of Indian and European military design approaches in its layout and defensive features.

The fort originated in 1537 as a mud structure built by Kempe Gowda I and was later reinforced with stone during the era of Tipu Sultan. This transformation reflected changing military needs and shifting political control over the region.

The site is situated near K.R. Market and welcomes visitors during daylight hours with information boards throughout explaining different sections. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable as exploring the walls and tower areas takes time and involves uneven ground.

Sections of the original mud structure remain visible beneath later stone additions, revealing distinct construction methods used at different times. These buried layers provide insight into the evolution of defense techniques without major demolition or complete replacement.
