Stella Maris College is a women's college in Chennai, India, located on Cathedral Road. The campus houses lecture halls, laboratories and a library that serves more than five thousand students studying arts, sciences and commerce.
Nuns of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd opened the institution in 1947 with thirty-two students in Santhome. The move to the current site came in 1960 as space became insufficient for the growing number of students.
The name refers to the Latin "Star of the Sea", a title for Mary that reflects the founding congregation's devotion. Students wear white uniforms that symbolize purity and scholarly commitment in the tradition of Catholic women's education.
The campus sits in a quiet section of Chennai, easily reached by public transport or taxi. Visitors should arrange permission beforehand as it is an active educational institution with limited access for outsiders.
