University of Burdwan, Research university in Purba Bardhaman, India
The University of Burdwan is a state-run research institution in Bardhaman with two separate locations serving different functions. The Rajbati campus houses administration in a former palace, while the Golapbag campus contains most teaching facilities and research labs.
The institution was established in 1960 when a maharaja donated his ancestral estate to the state for educational use. This donation created the foundation for a modern research university to develop in the region.
The museum here displays crafts and religious objects that show how artistic traditions changed across Indian history. Walking through its galleries gives you a sense of how people created and valued beauty in different times.
The central library welcomes both students and outside researchers and holds a substantial collection of books and academic journals for study and reference. Be aware that visiting rules may differ depending on whether you are a student or external researcher.
The planetarium here is the only one operated by an Indian university and offers regular shows about space and astronomy. It welcomes visitors of all ages interested in learning about the night sky and celestial objects.
